Also a good thing to do it this way because NOW every time you plav a song it doesn't have to export the Cover Art and display it, it NOW just reads it out of it's cache IMHO a waste of space, but that's iTunes for you as the Covers are also located in the Music Files themselves but that is the way iTunes handles stuff. Only My iTunes Cache directory is (at the moment) 2.95 Gb because there all the covers are located (have a look and you will find a lot of itc2 files in there). The Location where iTunes reads it's ALBUM ARTWORK from is the Directory iTunes\Album Artwork\ Locationfile://localhost/X:/iTunes/iTunes%20Media/Music/XXXXXX/XXXX/XXXXXXXXXXXX.m4a

These 2 files (*.itl and *.xml) in your iTunes Music directory are the Song / Movie etc Database files, and only contain info about "Artist, Song, when was the song last played, location, etc etc etc" BUT ALBUM ARTWORK is NOT Stored in these database Files !!Įxample out of the Itunes Library.xml xxxxx

It could be that your problem is because that "SuperSync" program doesn't update the Album Art but only the Song Database, but that is just guessing as I don't use a 3rd Party program to manage my Library (only the tags ) I also tag my Music Files exclusively with Mp3tag and also embed the Album Art with it (size preferably > 1000x1000) but I let iTunes manage my Music Library, and then it's synced to 2 iPhones and 1 iPod and no problem showing the artwork in either iTunes itself or the iPhones or iPod.Įdit: iTunes doesn't do anything with the Folder.jpg in the folder it will only disturb the way iTunes handles folders and you could end up with lots of directories with no Music in it (changed for example Artist name) but only have a Folder.jpg. In terms of the extra folders comment this is why I don't let iTunes manage my library.
The embedded art does appear as Front Cover yes. The Cache in fact is not updating but why would it use the cache for only the artist image when the image is present in all of the other areas. I think the issue may be that apple is now populating artist image from its own DB rather than the embedded images and my missing image may be due to those artists/album combinations not being in their db but this is a hunch. Supersync (it updates the itunes xml in place of the itunes). Thanks my friend, I will try my best and before I begin I wanted to post something that may be helpful on a reddit board. Q2: What’s the best way to add new music? Should I be putting new music in the “auto-add to iTunes” folder on the NAS drive? Should I use something like SuperSync? If I drag new music files into the QNAP Music Station it creates new folder based on the date and does not add the new music into the iTunes folder.1- Which program do you use to manage your library ?Ģ- Does the \iTunes\Album Artwork\Cache\xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx\ directory get updated when you add or change Album Art? This is the place where iTunes stores it's Album Art which you have added to the Music Files (itc2 files)ģ- Does the embedded Cover Art in Mp3tag show as Front Cover ?Ĥ- For Mp3's which tag version do you tag them with ? Id3v1, Id3V2.3 etc etc This happens when I select my shared library in iTunes but then I run into issues creating new playlists and using iTunes to sync new music to my iPhone Ideally I would just want the music to read from the server and play the file. Q1 (more critical): How do I solve this “new track-folder creation” problem. Dre) it created a new folder and put the track that I just played into it, all outside the music folder. And anytime I played a song from iTunes on my laptop (Calvin Harris, Dr. When I added the new Drake song, it created a new Drake folder in the iTunes folder but outside the Music folder. When I viewed the file directory, I noticed something strange.Īll of my existing music library was located on my NAS under iTunes > Music. I created a new playlist in iTunes and dragged a new song (by Drake) into the program, hoping with rose-coloured glasses the song would magically sync to the NAS. Playback has no lag and I can plug in my iPhone and sync new or different playlists. My entire library of songs and playlists loaded fine.Īt this point, everything is great. I hit “choose an existing library” and navigated to the iTunes folder on my NAS. I deleted my library on my laptop (Macbook Pro) and then held the option key when opening the application again. I copied my entire iTunes library to the “Multimedia” folder in my NAS. Every guide I read walks the user through the setup but not the day-to-day use. I still can’t seem to figure out the best way to add new music and now I’m having some major issues on playback. I purchased a QNAP TS-251 to offload all of my music, movies, photos, and other files for my computer.
